Postojna

Postojna (GPS coordinates: 45 46 19 N, 14 12 43 E) is situated in the south-west of Slovenia, almost exactly on the arithmetic intersection of the route between Ljubljana, Portorož, Nova Gorica, Rijeka and Trieste.

It can be reached by car on the A1 motorway from the directions of Ljubljana or Koper (exit Postojna). From Trieste it can be reached by taking the A3 motorway towards Divača, followed by the A1 motorway to Postojna. It can also be reached on regional roads from the directions of Idrija, Logatec, Cerknica, Ilirska Bistrica, Sežana or Ajdovščina.

Intercity buses will take you to the centre of Postojna, from where you can walk along Jamska Cesta Road to the entrance of the cave. Additional information about the timetables and bus connections in Slovenia.

Arriving to Postojna by train gives you an opportunity to see a bit of Postojna while walking from the railway station to the Postojna Cave Park. Additional information about the train timetables and train connections.

There are several international airports in the distance of less than a hundred kilometres from Postojna:

• Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport, Ljubljana (71 km). By car on the A2 motorway to Ljubljana, followed by the A1 motorway to Postojna.
• Portorož Airport (72 km). By road to Koper, followed by the A1 motorway to Postojna.
• Trieste No-Borders Airport (Ronchi dei Legionari Airport), Italy (74 km). By car on the A4 motorway to the Redipuglia toll station in the direction of Trieste-Slovenia to the Fernetti (Fernetiči) border crossing, from where you take the A3 motorway to Divača, followed by the A1 motorway to Postojna.
• Rijeka Airport, Omišalj, Croatia (99 km). By road across the Krk Island Bridge to Rijeka and onwards to the Rupa border crossing, and then Ilirska Bistrica and Postojna.

Postojna Cave Park

The distance between the centre of Postojna and the Postojna Cave Park, where the entrance into the cave is located, is 1 kilometre. The entrance to the cave is situated approximately 300 metres from the car park for passenger cars, motorcycles and buses.

Guests arriving by caravan have a caravan park at their disposal on the premises. It is located by the main road in the direction of the Predjama Castle, only 250 metres from the entrance to the Postojna Cave. It is open from the spring to the autumn, 24 hours a day. It can accommodate 20 vehicles for which water and electricity supply (16 A) is provided, and there is a possibility of a sewer connection on the spot. The price per night is 18 € per caravan.

Ticket offices are located approximately 50 metres from the cave entrance. Next to the car park, there are some kiosks selling souvenirs, fruit, snacks and beverages, as well as public restrooms. There is also an ATM at visitors’ disposal.
