Welcome 35-millionth visitor!

On 16 July 2013, an important milestone was marked at the Postojna Cave: the 35-millionth visitor was welcomed. The lucky visitor was Paweł Piatkiewicz from Poland, who visited the cave with his family.

Mr Piatkiewicz was delighted to receive a wonderful prize, a weekend package holiday for two at a luxury suite of Hotel Aleksander in the Slovenian spa town of Rogaška Slatina, where he will be happy to take his wife. He said he was very happy about it, and also surprised, as he had not expected he would be the lucky one. He had been aware Postojna Cave was a very well-know tourist attraction, but had no idea the number of visitors to the cave was actually that large. After returning from the cave, Mr Piatkiewicz and the chairman of Postojna Cave management together cut a large cake which had been prepared in his honour and was then able to rejoice in the happy occasion together with other visitors.

In addition to the main prize, Mr Piatkiewicz, the milestone visitor, was by Mr Marjan Batagelj, the chairman of Postojna Cave management, also presented with a hand-forged proteus sculpture and a numismatic set of two coins featuring Postojna Cave. But since fortune is a fickle lady and one can thus miss something by a hair's breadth, we also decided to reward the two closest winners, visitor No. 34,999,999, Ms Sofie Steffens from Germany, and visitor No. 35,000,001, Mr Wang Jian Qui from China. They were each presented with a hand-forged proteus sculpture and a numismatic set of two coins featuring Postojna Cave.
